About
I am a Counselling Psychologist in East London, who is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), and the Board of Healthcare Funders of South Africa (BHF). I am also a Social Worker, who is registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions. I have experience working in the field of alcohol and drug addiction, childcare and family reunification, physical trauma and rehabilitation, and in supervising students completing their tertiary education.
My work in addiction has involved counselling and support for those who have sought treatment, and for their families and loved ones. I have also provided drug and alcohol education and training to children, teenagers, and adults.
With regard to childcare, I worked closely with the children, staff and other professionals with the aim of trying to reunify families. This included education, counselling and support on an individual and group basis.
I have also worked in a hospital setting, whereby I offered therapeutic counselling and support services to clients undergoing rehabilitation following physical injury or trauma. This included facilitating educational and therapeutic groups to clients, and support and counselling for family members.
Lastly, I have supervised Social Work students during the course of their studies, assisting them with academic and emotional support and guidance.
Services Offered
Individual Counselling
I offer individual counselling or psychotherapy to clients of any age. This involves one-on-one sessions, whereby the client and therapist can discuss the stresses and challenges of life for example.
Play Therapy
Play therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach, whereby children can explore their world and express themselves through play. It can be used to assist children who are experiencing behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties for example.
Family Therapy
Family therapy aims to assist the family in their forms of functioning and communication, by navigating through difficult conversations in a safe space.
Therapeutic Approach
I see therapy as a place where individuals or families can come to explore any difficulties that they may be experiencing. Together, the therapist and client can embark on a journey with the aim of working through these challenges
Seeing as each client is unique, I make use of an integrative approach to therapy, depending on the client's therapeutic needs. This could include, but is not limited to Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
